Signing a lease and registering it are different tasks.
Before submitting a tenancy agreement, make sure the names, property details and agreed terms match the documents you will use. This guide explains preparation and the official service route; it does not replace advice on a disputed tenancy.
Use the correct registration service
Bahrain’s National Portal lists Lease Contract Services provided by the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Awqaf. It offers contract registration and fee payment, enquiry and eligible editing, and verification of a registered contract. The registration service identifies Standard eKey access. This is separate from registering a sale or ownership transfer with SLRB.
Prepare a consistent set of information
As a practical preparation checklist, gather the signed lease, party identification, accurate unit and address details, and evidence of authority if someone acts for a party. Compare the rent, term, commencement date and renewal wording across the documents. This checklist is preparation guidance, not a substitute for the service’s current mandatory-field or attachment requirements.
Check responsibility before submitting
Confirm who will submit the application and who will retain the record. If a party is a company, an agent is involved or there are multiple parties, check the appropriate official route before using a standard application. Ask about missing signatures or discrepancies rather than guessing or submitting inconsistent information.
Submit, pay and retain the result
Open the official service, sign in through its stated access method, complete the required fields and follow the current instructions. Confirm the fee shown before payment. Retain the reference, receipt and registration confirmation. A saved application or payment attempt should not be treated as proof of completed registration.
What if the lease changes or is renewed?
Check whether the registered details can be edited for your situation and whether a further step is required for a renewal or replacement contract. Do not assume editing is available to every user or that an old registration automatically covers new terms. If the parties disagree, obtain advice before making changes.
Registration is not a review of every lease clause
Review maintenance, deposits, rent payment, renewal and termination terms before signing. Registration does not remove the need for clear drafting or resolve an existing dispute. A buyer taking over an occupied property should also review the tenant’s position alongside the ownership transfer.
