What is meant by an alternative penalty in the Kingdom of Bahrain?

It is the replacement of imprisonment with another penalty carried out by the convicted person in accordance with the law. 

What are alternative measures?

They are measures imposed instead of pre-trial detention, which the accused must comply with while the investigation or trial is ongoing.

When may the judge impose an alternative penalty?

When imposing imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year, subject to the conditions of the law.

What about sentences exceeding one year?

They may be replaced with house arrest, either alone or together with another penalty, in specific cases relating to personal or health circumstances.

Can the convicted person request replacement of their sentence?  

Yes, if the sentence is imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year or coercive imprisonment.
